[SOLVED] Opinions on small form factor, low power server build?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to build a small form factor server, with a reasonably low idle power usage. Will run Ubuntu.
It will be used as

• plex server - direct streaming and transcoding (not for storage though, I already have a separate NAS).
• unifi controller
• Hass.io controller
• probably some other bits and pieces.

What do you all think of the below?

Lowest power voltage: 5.1v (only) using a raspberry pi downloaded with an SD card. You can hook this raspberry pi to your server with pins. Reccomended raspberry pi: raspberry pi 4

the power will only work if plugged onto pins

There were release of mini-boxes like this:

That will offer better power/space efficiency and at least same performance as you expect.
Should also be cheaper than building it yourself.

You could use raspberry pi without having to order anything (excluding Raspberry Pi, USB hub) and then you can power the raspberry pi off 5.1 volts, if you want to setup a 2 computer streaming you can buy 2 Raspberry Pi's amd then 1 raspberry pi has Raspian Buster Full and the other has Raspian Buster Lite.

If you think this way is better then let me explain it in full detail at re:[don't post your email address on the forum] I may not email you for up to 12-3 hours.

This is a in-expensive way of doing this.

Reccomended raspberry pi: raspberry pi 4

Even these newer pi 4's aren't quite powerful enough. They apparently can do a single 720p transcode, but that's about it:

Comes to £572 which is $1070 AUD for the same 8GB memory, 500GB M2 SSD
I don't think the power savings will justify the $300 extra anytime soon.

in general AMD offers more for same $ right now, so it we are price-bound. athlon 3000g OR ryzen 3200g will be a better price/performance option.
