So im building a gaming PC and am new to the components and understanding them.

I've heard this GPU can run most games on Ultra (which is what I want)

this one however could surely run Ultra but is it worth that money when i can get a cheaper GPU that can run games like BF4 on ultra 60 fps 1080p.
What are the major differences and if there are cheaper ones that can run modern games on ultra please link!
Thanks

The 690 is a Dual GPU it is a very very good card. The $999 price tag reflects that. the 7970 is also a great card it will perform BF4 Ultra at 60 fps

Other options are the GTX 780 /Ti, GTX 770, GTX 680, HD 7950.

You could get a GTX780ti which is almost bang in the middle of the two cards you posted in terms of price. (Link: http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-780-ti-(2880-cores) )

The 780ti isn't too far from the 690 in performance and is £200 cheaper and it's a single GPU card rather than a dual card like the 690. This can be a slight advantage as sometimes support for dualcore GPU's in some games is a bit iffy but you wouldn't have that problem with the 780ti or even the 780 if you want to go a touch cheaper and more towards the price of the 7970. All in all though, you can't go far wrong with most cards at this price point.

yes you are right, but against a 290 non x. which where i live are pretty much the same price.
Oh, i forgot the vram equation 2gb vs 3gb. I'll take the 280x. If was the 4gb version than i'd take the 770.
