Reviews are pretty bad, but for $180 that's a great price for a 7950. I can't buy it, but I'm wondering if it goes on sale again should I pull the trigger on it?

I had read to steer clear of Gigabyte cards as they can't really be overclocked. I want to stay around $200.

Also, I thought I read somewhere new cards were being released in October. Will that mean a price decrease on current cards?

First thing's first - don't go reference go with a brand made card with an after market cooler, such a Gigabye, MSI or my own recommendation - ASUS.

The 7950 is a good card, I was using a Gigabyte version and it ran games on high/ultra settings with no issues and the temps where fine It didn't need overclocking as the standard clocks where 1000/1250MHz. I went with it over the 660 for the 3GB VRAM. Just seemed to be that it'd last longer.

I have switched to an ASUS ROG 7970 now and it seems the Asus card is much better but I'm unsure if the same can be said of an Asus 7950.
I also have considered just getting a 660 and saving some money. There are so many reviews of 7950s running super hot and many of them arriving DOA. It's slightly unnerving and I feel like I'd be taking a risk.

Im sure its a good card you have to realize thats a very small percentage of reviews of people that actually bought the card.I do not agree with the others i guess but if you are not planning to overclock that card will be fine if you plan to overclock then i suggest what the others have mentioned
