hi i am beefing up my system in readyness for bf3, getting a new gpu and an ssd soon.
here is my current specs;

processor : intel Q6600
mainboard : asus P5Q se2
memory : geil black dragon 2GB 800MHz CAS5 X 2
GPU : xfx HD4870 1gb
sound : xfi fatality
case : cms stacker
power : corsair HX520W
monitor : samsung 940 bw 19" "max res 1440x900
OS : WIN7 64

i am torn between getting 6950 2gig or gtx560ti 1gig theres not much in the price or performance, the 6950 is abit more but theres the chance to reflash to a 6970.
or is all this too much for what i realy need? im not getting a 24" 1080 monitor any time soon. thanks for any input.

The GTX 560 1GB would be the better option if not the 69501GB is only 240$ and its great for the money. Also you need more then 2GB of ram you need to upgrade that to at LEAST 4GB. PLUS your only playing on 1440x900 you do not need 2GB of VRAM. i'm gaming on 1080P and i don't need 2GB of VRAM.

so will the GTX 560 1GB be good enough and any extra i spend on the GTX 560TI would be wasted?
ps i have 4 gigs of RAM (x2 on the end).
thing is if i do get a bigger screen will i be left short?

i would have to look for a second hand CPU to drop straight in, cant afford new MB/CPU/RAM just yet. :cry:

Old core 2 duo and Core 2 Quads are still available aren't they? But frankly whatever GPU you get you may get bottlenecking issues. The Q6600 was pretty much the first of the quads released and is pretty old and slow. If you can find a Q9400 or something like its still quite good.

I am still happily gaming on my E8400. But would love to have one of those mean Core i7's! :(
