The OPM rectified its initial report where it said that only 1.1 million fingerprints were stolen in the largest U.S. government data breach in history. The hackers, in fact, stole 5.6 million fingerprints of federal employees.

A few weeks ago I was having a back-and-forth with another commentator here about this whole debacle, where I was expressing my indignation towards the lack of professionalism and utter nonchalance of the OPM (as part of an even more nonchalant government) in dealing with this crisis, and the other party expressing a more lenient attitude, even suggesting that media reports are not always to be trusted and in this case they're likely exaggerated.
This new development shows that the only thing inaccurate was the extent of the damage reported, in this case the initial report was conservative at best.
The new OPM attitude will probably be like "so what? just replace your fingers, and thank you for your taxes".
