Opninions second-hand GPU

So i would like to know what y'all opinions are about second-hand GPU. Experiences, tips,...
I'm currently considering buying a R9 290 priced at €310.
On some second-hand websites in Belgium, i found someone selling a R9 290X.
Currently his highest bid is €250 (by me), how high should i go? Or shouldn't i buy a second-hand at all and just go for a new R9 290.

Personally I haven't bought second hand, but I have purchased open box items. Most stores (Amazon included) will back their open box items so that if it doesn't work or goes bad in the first few weeks, they will take it back and/or exchange it. I bought my GPU, PSU and CPU cooler from amazon through their Warehouse Deals (open box) and haven't had any issues since my build back around May.

Does somebody know what the average life time is of a graphics card? (Approximately)
