:?: Hello all,

I will be purchasing an Opteron 165 and I am planning on OC'ing it to 2.6Ghz, (if I can)I don't think I need to go with water cooling, besides after reading about 100 posts on this subject, its all a bit confusing.

I don't think I want to test my technical abilities with water cooling on a 2k rig.

I think I will start a water cooling project on my outdated Athlon XP 2000+ system when I get some more money. Once I feel comfortable with water cooling I will move the opty to higher clock frequencies.

Anyway, I would like some opinions on the Heatsink/Fan.

I have read a few things on the following:
Tuniq TowerT-120
Zalman CNPS9500

I would like not to have a leafblower running in my case if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I'd go with the 9500. Its actually really light for its size and its rated the highest.

DDay

In fact when I get the money I'm going with the 9500 because it is also really quiet and thats what I'm going for.

Yeah Buddy!
My Freezer pro arrived last week. Hopefully, my Opty 170 and a8r32-mvp will be here next week. It's like RichPLS said though- all chips are different and some OC better than others. I would like to get 2.7-8 out of mine, but I know it's not a given. Good luck though.

I've got my rig sitting at 2.0 on stock cooling right now, 41C idle. If i plan to overclock more, i'll invest in a zalman. But remember guys, i've seen overclocking with the CPU done upto 2.4 on the stock cooler and that its an upgraded cooler compared to the regular Athlon64. Just something you might want to think about.

thanks for the help guys, I think I will go with the Zalman.

The fact that it is light makes me feel better. And I have read a lot of good reviews on it.

Thanks again for the opinions

Opty 170 here, 1.4v @ 2,6Ghz.

haven't tried higher, since my cooler is icrap

EDIT

got a Zalman 9500 btw, would change it to a TT Big Typhoon anyday..

The Big Typhoon and Tuniq Tower 120 are both better than the Zalman 9500. No offense intended.

I would either go with Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 or an SI-120..... the SI-120 is what I have.... and you can use it on any AMD cpu to it's max OC no problems..... I have used it on many AMD cpu's to there max oc..... so go for a good air cooler.... and don't worry... just watch the temps.....
