So yesterday i was working on my CPUs clock lowering the voltage and i was wondering if anyone has gotten their CPU voltage as low as i have stable. My Opteron is at 2.7 Ghz with 1.2 Volts. This is Prime stable.
hmm...only 1.2 Volts?...never lowered it to 1.2. I have the same 165 CPU and same clock......but I have a bigger if u can help. 'till 2 days ago I had 2/512MB CL2.5 PQI....and in order to overclock i had to lower DDR clock from 400 to 333 mhz and HT from 5x to 4x. Now I have 2*1GB Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G (2*200Mhz). I tried the same with the new pares of ram but after saving my settings in BIOS and reboot, the pc freezes.....overclock failes. Can u help?
So the reason for lowering the ram speed is as u increase the FSB you increase the clock of the ram, my ram says its running at 266 but it really isnt. Its at like 401 Mhz. So set ur ram there and see what happens

LoL your sig kind of amused me...
1) Why are you running speed tests at 5 in the morning
2)Pretty typical speed of university connection
But more on topic, I never really drew much attention to the opty cpu's what are they server type of cpu's?
I always see posts of people OC them, which I'm assuming they do well, but how do they compare to AMD's regular line of X2 cpus? Thanks for the heads up.

They are the best Socket 939 Dual Core you can buy.
They pretty much are they Best OC for 939. Back then the CPUs were binned. So the better ones became optys and the rest became Athlons. Thats why the OC better. Today its the same CPU with a different name. That Speedtest was done at like 9pm when i was in a Solidworks Class. IDK why the time is off.
opterons are good for overclocking just make sure you get a good one. my cpu is a opteron 170 and it basically maxes out at 2717 MHz
any higher and i get problems like it will be stable all day then out of nowhere everything will just freeze (and the cpu temp will be under 50C so it is not a heat problem and increasing the voltage doesnt help not sure if my motherboard or cpu is causing this limit )
I've never tested mine at lower clock speeds. Mines at 1.45v for 3Ghz on water. I did notice that after having the chip OCd for about six months, when I reset the BIOS and went through the process of finding the highest OC, it could hit higher speeds at lower volts. This also has to do with going from air to water though since cold chips are better conductors.
Thanks for the replies, now I know. I guess it's good to see a solid performer for that socket type. When AMD did that whole 754/939/ what was the other one? In about a 2 year span it kind of messed everything up a bit.
