I like the model numbering of Opteron. Looks very similar to GPU model numbering, no place of MHz in model numbering. IMO, AMD should use this kind of model numbering with Athlon 64.

I agree with Spitfire here, the model numbering is in no way intrusive on other processors, it uses its own, like most server processors, bearing weird model numbers. It is a nice change, and it only tells you that each model with a higher number, is better than the late one behind it in the serie.

I wish AMD a lot of luck on this one, Opteron IS the decisive moment since 3 years for them.

good luck to them. they are gonna need it.
Hope they do well and redefine the server landscape and scare the willies out of intel.

Slightly off topic but are AMD thinking of launching a <A HREF="http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?spn=A058668" target="_new">+2800 MP Athlon</A> anytime soon ?

Another pre Opteron <A HREF="http://www.taaza.info/archives/002468.php#more" target="_new">interview</A> with MR Ruiz himself.

Hm... I was under the impression that the 2600+ MP was the last of them... don´t know why, maybe I thought I read that somewhere. Low-end opterons could replace them, right? It looks that way, if you look at the prices.

(Please see orginal posting for update on Opteron)

Me too, i think it wouldn't be good for Opteron if they start releasing faster Athlon MP grades. I have also noticed listings of +3200 Athlons on some sites.
