Optical audio help with TV and receiver

I have a Sony XBR-65X800B and a Panasonic receiver. I want to connect both with a optical cable. I have tried and i get no audio. I changed the settings on the TV still get no sound. But when i connect from cable box to receiver i get audio. What should i do?

Sound like the receiver is working OK since the cable box works. When you connect the optical cable to the TV do you see a red light at the other end of the cable? If not the optical out is not working. If you do then try changing the settings on the TV audio menu again. Set it to the same setting as the cable box.
