Optical Drive for SSD and GPU?

Dear everyone,

It's my first time building a custom desktop, and i was just watching this video on youtube, and i saw the man pull out these disks from the SSD and GPU box. He said the GPU one was for updates and the SSD disk was for something else important. Does this mean i need an optical drive? I was planning on just installing windows 7 premium on a USB stick.

They'd be for driver updates. You should be able to get what you want (latest drivers) off the internet anyway. On the other hand, a DVD writer is $20.
