Hi: Asssuming this is the right forum, I dare ask: what is the chemical usually employed to clean the optical drive lens? Perhaps isopropyl alcohol. Thanks.

Better don't try to do that. On contemporary drives it's usually sealed, you can't access it and you'll only destroy the drive. It worked once time ago /when there wasn't DVD drives yet/ but new drives require to be much more precise etc. and they are not made to be manually cleaned.

Thanks for your reply. I went to wikipedia and saw isopropyl alcohol is used, among many electronics cleaning applications, to clean the lenses of optical drives. But I'd rather not mess with the drive, given your post, and wikipedia's article may outdated. Regards.
