Hello. I have bought creative soundblaster x ae-5 plus and i have the edifier s351 db 2.1 speakers. My question is. Is it better to connect them via optical cable or the classical 3.5 mm red white to jack cable. Soundblaster also has dts digital for optical but when i enable it i lose all sound cant hear anything at all youtube tell me to restrt pc but nothing happens. Shouldnt it work with optical cable?

When you use optical, you're asking the DAC your speakers to decode the digital stream to analog. When you connect via analog cables, the sound card's DAC does the decoding.

It's a question of which decoder is better and more capable, the one in the sound card or the one in the speakers.

The edifier speakers are one of the best in the market at this time. So you mean that with optical cable i have nearly the same sound with the one i had in my motherboard with optical? If yes i dont need this soundcard

if you run direct sound then yes, soundcard DAC specs became meaningless with optic so you may not hear any difference if both DACs are good enough, otherwise you can use some soundcard effects which soundcard control panel gives (crystalizer, smart volume, voice enhance, equalizer) or that gaming oriented scout mode
