Hi all !!

It's time for a new mouse, & I've got about $70 to spend. I've had an MS Wireless Laser Mouse for about 4 years, & I've started to notice it locking up for a few seconds every so often. It may be nothing, but I've just decided it's time to upgrade. After a rather exhaustive search, & research, I've decided on one of three:

1) MS Sidewinder X8

Have done plenty of research on this one. Reviews seem to be very good. The negative things said, seem to be a bunch of nitpicking. I personally think that a lot of the complaints, stem from those who don't like wireless mice for gaming, or from little problems (ex: loose mouse feet), that seem to be major trouble, but can be readily fixed. Ergonomics of the X8 is anolther one. I believe ergonomics is a personal preference. I have larger than average hands, & the size of the X8 is about the same as what I currently have. Mostly though, I think the complaints about the X8, stem from the fact that this is a Microsoft product, aka "the evil empire".

2)Razer Death Adder (3500 dpi version) I think the name, reputation, & reviews of the Death Adder speak from themselves. Probably redundant to mention them here.

3) Razer Imperator Reviews seem very good, like with most Razer products. Probably don't need to say too much here either.

I guess my dilemma is this. I own other Razer equipment (sound card & mouse pad). I think both are excellent, & would have no qualms about adding to my Razer arsenal! While the Death Adder seems to be the most stable of Razer mice, I also realize it's an optical mouse. This may be a baseless fear, & probably is. I'll take my lumps if I have to. The Imperator. After reading reviews, & several conversations, I think this may be a winner! On the other hand, I've used Microsoft keyboards & mice for years ( I use a Sidewinder X6 keyboard & Wireless Laser Mouse now) with no problems, & have no reason, at the moment, to believe I'll have problems now. May be wrong on that one as well. Newegg is sold out of the X8 for now, both the Death Adder & Imperator are in stock, the Imperator is too expensive on Newegg. Amazon have all 3 for about $60 (DA) & $70 (Imperator & X8). See, I prefer wireless mice, but don't have too many qualms about going back to a wired mouse. Something else. I mostly play adventure games, but I also play rpg & fps games. I don't play online.

I would appreciate hearing what some of you think. Take Care, & thanks for listening & reading !!!

1. First tip is to stay away from wireless mice esp if the usage will be mostly gaming.
2. I have no feedback as to the laser vs. optical as I have yet to own a laser mouse.
3. I have been doing much research myself on mice lately. I like mice. There isn't THAT large of a selection when it comes down to it. For me, it's pretty much boiled down to the Death Adder or the Logitech MX518. I heard the DA will die on you about a year in, but is a great mouse none the less (1 yr factory warranty). Logitech's warranty program, however, is SUPERB. yes, really, superb. I think you should really consider the mx518 (avg lifespan is prolly 3+ yrs, and they have a 3 year warranty on 518s).
4. DPI shouldnt really be a measure of how good a mouse is. a lot of pro gamers prefer the 400DPI over the 1800. but then again, a lot also prefer the DA's 3500.
5. I think the sidewinder is a waste of plastic.

Thanks for the reply !!

I decided on the Death Adder (3500 dpi version). The Logitech mice looked nice. Only one I ever had any experience with, was my father's old mx1000. I think he had it for 4 years, before it died on him. I had also considered the g500. I found a couple in my budget, but went with the DA instead. Even if it does last only a year, that's ok. With any luck, the Mamba will drop in price by then. Then again, maybe I'll find a Logitech I like (the g500). To be honest, the g9 is the ugliest mouse I ever saw. Looks aren't everything though ! I should receive my DA next week sometime. Looking forward to it !!

I may have made a mistake. I ordered from buy.com, through amazon. I got my e-mail confirmations, then a couple hours later, I get a "robot" letter, stating there's a problem with fulfilling my order, even though the mouse is listed as "in stock". I e-mailed, asking about a substitute mouse, & it's on them. Also said I want resolution by Tuesday, or I want a refund. Way I see it, this is their mistake, not mine.Maybe I was out of line, but I somehow don't think so.Did some research, & found out I'm not the only one this has happened to. I ordered yesterday, about 11 A.M. & according to buy.com, orders placed before 4 P.M. are shipped same day. Should I be freaking out more than I already am ?

Amazon did the same with my memory, I think thier poor sevice is becoming common and I won't use them again.

This was all buy.com. Will never do business with them again!Amazon didn't really have nothing to do with it. I canceled my order, & Amazon said, since I paid through them, that it would take up to 2 weeks to get my money back on my card. So, in the interim, I went to Best Buy, & got a Logitech g500. Amazon themselves now have the Death Adder in stock, so I ordered it. It should be here on Thursday. My stepson now has my g500, & I'm using a MS wireless laser mouse 6000 (old mouse), until my Death Adder gets here.
