Hello community,

First of all my specs.
Operating System
Windows 10 Pro N 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i7 3770
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 670MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8Z77-M (LGA1155)
Graphics
2450W (1920x1080@60Hz)
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (ASUStek Computer Inc)
Storage
465GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB (SSD)

Before Xmas I decided to start upgrading my system. After a lot of deliberation and the crazy prices of gfx cards I settled a little reluctantly for a 1060 3gb (upgraded from a 670) which i felt would be a noticeable jump in performance. My 670 was getting quite hot and freezing.

Specifically in WoW I haven't seen much of a performance gain, I also play LoL and Sc2 (so not the most demanding games). I am not o fay with OCing etc. and was happy to settle with the standard settings of the card. I have been doing some research into increasing performance WoW in particular and there is an abundance of conflicting and seemingly nuance (mis)information.

I have a few quick questions preferably from someone who has an understanding of how wow performs.

Is my CPU "up to the task"? ("bottle necking" seem to be thrown around often on certain sites for various compositions of pc)

Is disabling the inbuilt HD graphics on your CPU an option to gain better CPU performance?

Is my 8gb of RAM an potential issue?

Or did I cheap out on a gfx card that has little performance gain (the benchmark score was twice as much as the original) and screwed myself?

In essence, is it probably my settings not giving me an significant improvement over the 670? or the actual hardware. Seems odd that 4 years of tech and the card is barely any better.

Cheers,
Nick

Solution
A 1060 is overkill for those games, because they are CPU-heavy games. and SC2 and WoW are single-thread heavy games.

League is stupid easy to run I wouldn't even worry about that.

Your 3770 is not up to the task for what you want it sounds.

SC2 and WoW are just horribly optimized.

For reference my 8700k and 1080Ti I only get about 45fps in some raid fights at preset 7 at 3440x1440p. Keep in mind CPU usage is the same despite resolution changes.

In SC2 if my army is too big I'll drop to about 60 or so (I play at 100Hz), so it's not nearly as bad.

Unfortunately you're going to have to settle somewhere. It's unrealistic to expect 60+ fps at all times from WoW even with the best CPU and even on moderate graphic settings.

And simply put you're just NOT going to be able to push 144Hz stable except in LoL. The games' engines just suck.

Solution
Let me make it a little clearer. Your GPU should have absolutely no problem playing any of those games on Very High/Ultra/Max and keep 60fps.

If you aren't seeing that it is because of the CPU, either high background usage or it just isn't fast enough.

Possibly a driver issue.

You could start by giving specifics other than "it don't run good"
