I have looked a lot for a possible answer to this but have found nothing on the optimization of hard disk. I would like to know the best way to squeeze speed out of my disk. Over the past years thoughts about this have been put into my head but are they true? I ask now.

First about my hard disk setup, I have one of each of the following ATA100 30 gig, ATA66 20 gig, 12x burner, 48x cd reader, & a ATA100 PCI card with 2 channels. Now I am wondering first what the best setup is, I have always kinda followed my own rule and placed all harddisk on the primary and all cdroms on the secondary. Now that I have a PCI card what is best one hard drive per PCI channel and one cdrom per IDE channel or just placing only my ATA100 drive on the card and putting my ATA66 back on the IDE? I want the most out of a decent setup. The next question is partitions, I am wondering the truth behind this. Is it best to break a disk down into partitions or to leave it whole? Splitting it deffently helps organization but what about speed & performance. A guide should be posted on what is best and what doesn't matter with this issue.
