[SOLVED] Option to reset your pc

Hello,

back in the day i used to bring my pc to a specialist for him to fresh start my pc. Recently I've found an option that you can reset your pc from the pc settings. So my question is if the possibility to reset your pc is worth it or should i bring it to a specialist for him to do it?

Let's say if i reset my pc threw windows will it keep that main necessary programs or will it reset absolutely everything and I'll have to reinstall all of those files?

The Reset This PC tool keeps your personal files (if that's what you want to do), removes any software you have installed, and then reinstalls Windows.

I think the main question is......why do you want to do this?

I agree with Jay32267's question "why do you want to do this?" I've been working with Windows 10 since 2014 and never had an occasion where I'd want to do a reset. If you want better performance, you might install an SSD or more RAM. If you're having things that don't work, there are things you can do; but without more details, I couldn't be more specific. If you look at Settings -> Update and Security -> Recovery, there are a number of options with explanations if you're sure that's what you really want to do.

If one installs apps once in a while to see what they do, and these apps mess with the setup to the point of it being unusable, I see a good reason to "Reset My PC". Not that I'd do it that way, for sure, but for average Joe...

To reset your PC

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
3. Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Note: ( You'll be asked to choose whether you want to erase data quickly or thoroughly. If you choose to erase data quickly, some data might be recoverable using special software. If you choose to erase data thoroughly, this will take longer but it makes recovering data less likely. )

Reset this PC only touches the partition windows is on. So if you have programs/files on another partition or drive, it will ignore them completely and leave those as is. Any programs on other partitions/drives would need to be reinstalled after the reset for them to work. The files themselves will still be accessable

Reset this PC (if you keep files/settings) also saves the contents of any LIbrary folders (those being Documents, music, pictures, video) and and settings such as logins.
Any programs you have installed on C will be removed, it only keeps what you get out of box with win 10.

Win 10 goes through a reinstall every 6 months when you get a version update. Resetting it as well is just asking for problems as I have seen resets delete windows completely. Fresh install is always the option I take. But I only reinstall win 10 if I have a problem I cannot figure out. Both times I have done that have ended up being hardware related so as far as I can tell, I have only had 1 problem which was Win 10's fault in last 4 years.

I wouldn't get anyone else to install win 10 as its really easy to do. If you gave us info on PC we could help you do it yourself and save money
