Optiplex 3050 i7-7700K

Would this computer be eligible for the i7-7700K? It is compatible with the i7-7700, however, the 7700K has a higher clock speed and performs better in just about every aspect. I ask, because there's hardly any information about this as far as I can find.

What form factor is your Optiplex 3050 ? Tower or SFF ?
Only issue with i7-7700k is - you'll need a beefier cpu cooler also.

Tower. And do you think any beefier ones would fit? Or would I be better off waiting until I upgrade to a larger tower?

I don't think Dell provides CPU cooler clearance data for their models. At least I couldn't find it.
You have to measure it yourself.
It looks like ODD drive cage may be obstructing installation of a larger cpu cooler.
