Optiplex 7010 SFF and Xeon E3-1240?

Solution
The Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF has an Intel Q77 chipset motherboard.

On that chipset there are motherboards that support the e3-1240 like this Gigabyte: GA-Q77M-D2H (rev.1.0) CPU list

From Intel Q77 chipset specifications, on the compatibility list that xeon is not supported: Link here

Now from personal knowledge Dell motherboards won't work with some CPUs even though they have the same socket. That will be because their BIOS versions or because of the power limitations of the board. Also the PSUs on the small form factor systems are not that great, having usually around 250W.

So that Xeon may or may not work. The CPU micro code may not be recognised by the motherboard(it's different from the consumer counterpart...

I won't recommend trying it since its risky.

Solution
I have just installed Xeon E3-1220 v2 in Optiplex 7010 DT and it works like a charm. No issues whatsoever. Turbo Boost works, all instructions sets are supported, single and threads performance is as per passmark scores so it is 100% supported. Please see attached AIDA screen. I am over the moon with this build.I have opened account here but I cannot insert screenshot from AIDA

Just as a (very) late follow up...
ChumP was correct. The Xeon E3-1220 v2 did not work in the Optiplex 7010 SFF. Wasn't recognized even with the latest BIOS offered by Dell.
I am only posting at this late date in case someone else with the same question comes across this.

Hi,

My Optiplex 7010 DT, full size motherboard, 4 RAM slots, works with XEON E3-1220 v2 so it might be SFF issue.

I can send you full report of AIDA benchmarks but I do not know how to attach picture here.

Together with Radeon HD 7850 2GB I have a very nice budget gaming rig. I have those old Xeons and Optiplexes for free from decomissioned servers/pcs in my company and I have paid 25 quid for Radeon so this is next to nothing build. Xeons are bit faster than i5-2400 Sandy Bridge cpus coming from this older Optiplexes so I decided to use Xeons as they are Ivy Bridge.
