Hi! So i made a post a little bit ago a gpu and cpu upgrade, Now besides all of that straight to the point. I want to pick up a Q9400 quad core, I'm not sure of wattage and what not, But i need to figure that out. But the main question is. Will the stock cooler in the optixplex 755 be able to keep the q9400 cool? Thanks!

Solution
The copper bottom cooler was used with the E6700 95W CPU it should be OK. As long as it isn't the Aluminum lump you should be alright.
If you do have any cooling issues the heatpipe coolers can usually be found for about $10 if you shop around.
It depends on what CPU the Opti 755 cames with. The 2 cores had an Aluminum finsink for the 65W CPUs, and the quad cores had a Copper finned heatsink for the 95W CPUs. But the D9729 heatpipe cooler from the older pentium4 pentium D 130W CPUs is the best choice for the Mini Tower.
H7445 for the desktop size, and JP911 for the Small Form factor version.

Ya its a copper bottom, With copper heatpipes and aluminum fins. Also, Another question, Do you know how much the Q9400 pulls from the socket? 65w? I'm just trying to make sure my power supply can handle it. :) Thanks so much!

The Optis from 755 on all have a 95W CPU limit. If that has the old Dell 305W PSU it's the one they used with 130W Pentium D in the Opti 745.
All the 45nm Quads that willl run in that are 95W except the Q9550S, and Q9505S which are 65W.

The Dell PSU can power any CPU it will run and all the slots and bays available.
I've run an X5470 Xeon 120W and GTX1050Ti off of an Optiplex 305W PSU.

Ya i think i am going to be okay, My power supply in my dell 755 is a 280w I'm hoping to throw in a 20$ q9400 quad core. and a gt 710. (Since its 19w and the slot only supports 25w) so from what you just said i should be okay, Thanks for the help! This clears up so much.

I have the sff version. I was gonna go with the gt 1030, Or the gt 730, But i found a gt 710 on new egg for 30$ (cad price) and since this build is gonna be used for simple games (minecraft, roblox, sims) older titles to. I wanna get something were you have headroom. The duel core right now has a very hard time with even roblox. MInecraft just lags a ton when new chunks load. So going with a nice quad core will work well with a gt 710 <3

I don't wanna bother with the pin mod because cooler may be a issue, And i dont want it to be. Either way quad core is always good. There is no hard drive in there, But that hard drive runs at 7200 rpm and loads everything else great, Believe it is just the cpu
