First, here is the tech guide

System originally shipped with a 275W PSU so you must have an aftermarket model.

Tech guide indicates that full height cards are supported with dimensions that meet those listed for the PCI-e x16 slot on page 19. Slot provides a full 75W. Higher wattage cards would need the appropriate PCI-e power connector from the PSU.

The one thing you don't state is what CPU you have, this model shipped with anywhere from a G630 to an i7-3770. No use in getting a good GPU if your CPU won't support.
It really depends on the exact 500W PSU that you have in the PC. Some cheap ones are over-rated and barely more than a 300W. Can you provide the make/model of your PSU?

But if the PSU is good quality with a strong +12V rail, the GTX 1060 6GB or RX-570 would be fine. The RX-580 if the +12v rail specs are really good.
