Help. Using an AMD Opteron 144 + an Abit Fatality Mobo. Can't get my processor to overlock over 300mhz. Using Corsair XMS 533mhz DDR memory so that can't be the problem. Resetting and blue screens occur when overclocked too much, then failing to boot so I have to reset the bios. Also tried boosting cpu core voltage to keep stability but it has no effect! Temps are low (<40 degrees)

Using a £30 budget 550watt psu so could that be the problem? Voltages seem fairly stable though, and close to what they should be.

Edit: the stepping is CABYE, so pretty good. Can't see the problem 🙁

when buying a CPU to over clock even an opteron you are gambaling on the quality of CPU that you get, if you are unlucky and that is quite rare with opteron then you will just not be able to overclock, it could be the PSU but that is unlikely to cause BSODs, i doubt there is anything you can do about it but memory errors can and are the most common cause of BSOD.
I use a prescott CPU and they are supposed to be pretty good at OCing but i can onl just get 200MHz extra on mine

If you provided slightly more information, that would be helpful. RAM timings (at stock speed, as well as at OC), RAM voltage, chipset voltage, HTT multiplier, CPU voltage, and CPU multiplier ought to get us started. Just a shot in the dark here, but try your 300Mhz overclock again, but manually set your HTT multiplier to 4x. See if that boots and post back.

Also, gather this other information and post that as well, and we'll see how far that bad boy will go.

Your lucky - My P4c did 300mhz and its a P4, dont EVER EXPECT the things to go any further.
