AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 1GHz HT 2MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - with the heatsink & fan is what i ordered from newegg.

1) what memory can i use with this? FYI i am going with 2x1024mB

2) what is the BEST (i like/use Corsair, but open to suggestion) RAM to use for oc'ing? i will have copper RAM heatsinks so may oc RAM also if needed/safe - i am trying to save over 500USD by not buying an fx60 like i was going to....until i found this forum...you guys rock!!!

i have never oc'd anything so be gentle & feel free to post suggestions for RAM timings, cpu oc suggestions, hyperlinks to resources, etc. etc.

3) what is the best mobo for the CPU & RAM, i am not sure what will be compatible, this is the 1st micro-atx i have built, and it will go in an Aspire X-QPACK AL/420 case 9x11.2x14 inches with a slide-out mobo tray - i have an asus a8n-vm csm socket 939 nvidia geforce 6150 micro-atx mobo on my newegg wish-list...i have not finalized yet am waiting for help on parts, i have no problem on mid-tower i have had 5 built in the past 2 years, but this is new territory for me

3a) an antec 550w truepower with a 120mm fan, plus the fan on the asus/radeon x1900xtx 512mb GPU, plus the 120mm fan in back of the case, and the one on the opty should be enough cooling (i think)

i have heard that the stock heatsink & fan on the opty's are very good but if anyone has used an arctic cooling 64 pro or zalman ccolers would appreciate a comparison TIA for any help

I just build a system with an opteron 170 8) , and I am using 4x512 Corsair XMS.
The opteron installed XP for first time @ speed 2.6Ghz (with default voltage).
Just change the bus speed to 260mhz, the multipl. is x10 by default and it seems locked.
The memory handle that speed with no problem at all.
And yes I am a new egg fanatic but I got my CPU and some other staff from Mwave, in the end I saved $120 more 😀

I got the new MSI K8N Diamond Plus.
I am very pleased with the board and the all the goodies on it.
Looks like MSI does not include the Tube Amp (Tube Panel) anymore but I really don't care about it, (anyway the board is cheaper without it too)
As I said, 2.6Ghz with out voltge changes or memory tweaking. Memory is set to auto by the board. CPU-Z saws Frequency 216.5MHZ ,CAS 3, RAS to CAS 3, RAS 3, Tras 7, Trc 10.
And another thing about the board is, if you planning to use all 4 memory slots the MAX speed you can get is 333Mhz 🙁

I have a different board than you, but I run 4x512MB Corsair DDR and have hit 10.5x260 for 2730MHz, would post but not stable. Was stable at 255MHz tho.
I currently am running it 11x220MHz at CAS 2-3-3-8-3.

I also just put together a new system with a Opty 170 and a Asus 8AN32 SLI board and 2 gig OCZ PC 4000 gold ram. I was able with divider to get the processor to 2.7 at 1.38 vcore. But was having trouble getting the ram to overclock well. Me being a noob and not fully understanding all of the settings on the mother board I went to the OCZ forums found there database of stable memory settings and found settings for stable at 250. I copied those settings and now running the the memory at 260 stable at 3,4,3,8 1T and the the processor is at 2.61 stable prime 95. all with a 1.38 vcore.

I am real happy with the results and the system runs cool and more then met my overclock goal.

Good Luck

i plan on using 2 RAM slots 1gB each
