Hi all,

I posted already regarding my planned sandy bridge build and received a lot of good advice that yielded a full parts list (except mobo) that I am really happy with.

While I'm waiting for sources to begin offering p67 mainboards again, can anyone point me in the direction of some general pc building sources? I guess I'm looking for a generic step 1, step 2, ... kind of build walkthrough. I looked on th, maybe not thoroughly enough, but I didn't find anything - although there is lots of info about individual components and compatibility of planned builds.

I'd also like assembly of my first build to be slow and deliberate, to make sure I'm putting things together in a good order, testing as i build, along the way when possible, what some common mistakes are, pitfalls, etc. That kind of thing.

Thanks much,

HF

Hello holyfingers;

Here is a Step-by-Step Guide to Building a PC

Look over the forum's "System won't boot" checklist to see some of the common build errors and how to avoid them.

-> The usual advice; read the manual / install guide; look at the parts, read the manual again and if everything makes sense and looks right - then go ahead with the install.

While you're waiting you can download the online version of the motherboard manual and start getting familiar with it. Same for the other parts you want to order if they have install guides or manuals available.

Thanks WR2, Jack, and batuchka. I will definitely let you all know how it turns out. I planned on maybe taking some pictures and doing a little photo journal of the build, and/or possibly video in the hopes that other first time builders might get something out of it. Great resources! Thanks again, HF
