Won't melt, better build quality, better customer support, and it's not a Dell

"Full Range AC adapter, AC in 100~240V, 50~60Hz, DC output 20V, 15A, 300W
Removable 8 cells Smart Lithium-Ion battery pack, 89.21WH
Battery life: 150 minutes (with AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M single, 89.21WH battery)"

300w AC adapter! I'd still watch out when fully loading the machine with a high end quad core and dual GPU config. The adapter's going to get hot since it is only passively cooled even with it's high rating, and there won't be cheapo aftermarket AC adapters for this on Ebay so be careful!

2.5 hour battery life with one GPU is impressive, thanks to modern GPUs and CPU/chipsets.

[citation][nom]TheBigTroll[/nom]the last time i checked, the 680m uses a gtx670 chip thats been downclocked 200mhz. i highly doubt the underclocked 7870 can beat the underclocked gtx670[/citation]

Oops, my mistake. I was thinking about the GTX 675M. The 680M seems to trade blows with the 7970M, probably because of the huge cut in memory bandwidth that it takes from the desktop 670 more so than the under-clocked GPU.

[citation][nom]jarred125[/nom]Portable seems to be all relative here. This, IMO, is NOT portable. The battery life I'm sure is abysmal as is the weight. But I guess there is a market for this.[/citation]
It's semi-portable, you can carry it from power outlet to power outlet ;)

just hope that amd doesnt pull off another 6990m

[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]You've never had carry a laptop with you every day of the week from lecture hall to lecture hall, have you?A laptop in this size, weight and battery life category is little more than a slightly more mobile desktop. Do those high graphics details really matter on a 17" display?[/citation]

If you're carrying this to a lecture hall, you're probably failing college.

So true... Mobile graphics naming is seemingly always not easily compared to desktop graphic naming right now, but that 6990M was an exceptionally dishonest name for what should have been called a 6970M, 6975M, or 6980M.
