ORTHOS

OOooOO, i had that before; i just ignored it and kept with prime 95. i think Orthos has a temp limit that it has to be under. i ran prime 95 for 3 hours and my cpu went up to 60, with orthos as soon as my cpu would skim 53-55 it would give me an error. My comp is till running at my OC'd speed as i tested with orthos and no problems in Gaming and Audio converting.

P.S. heres my thred i posted talking about my problem. http://forumz.tomshardware.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=230253&highlight=bigcharb .

i'm using a swiftech watercooling setup with a single 120mm Rad and an Apogee water block. in the link the temps are lower cuz i had the window open and -7 out door temps 😀 . i understand that 60 is high but thats under serious load. the cpu will never see that under moderate to high usage. i game sometimes on weekends for 6 hours one shot on BF2142 and my temps hit around 53. my voltage is 1.475. what r u using?

You should test your OC longer than that on Prime95, I once ran mine for 8 hours and thought I was good because it passed. I then ran into a problem and decided to try it again and once it got to 10 hours i got an error, so 12+ hours is your best mark for prime95, if you can make it to that you should be good to go and I wouldnt worry about it. I actually ended up testing for alil over 16 hours for the current system in my sig!

if u want lower temps, try these steps. clean out ur case from any dust or dirt on the fan intakes. fix up your cable management if u haven't. if you feel comfortable, remove the heat sink and check if the block is making proper contact on the cpu. If you can, try to achieve a negative pressure inside your case, it puts undo strain on the exhaust fans and the intake fans are going along for a free ride. hope this helps.

where you running small or large TFT's?

if it errors there is a potential problem.

Maybe down the FSB a few notches to see if it gets better.

Also note that you run just one prime(there is a switch you use to run 2 -a0 or something) it will only stress one CPU. Orthos will stress all of them. If so thats the reason.

I suggest you back it up a bit and try again.

My computer is BRAND NEW. I JUST built it and my cable management is perfect. It is a Stacker 832 so airflow is a non-issue. I have a hi performance 114cfm fan and two more 79cfm blue LED fans coming for the fan "door". The hi performance one will blow DIRECTLY on to the HSF and the 3 blue LED fans (CoolerMaster) will keep the rest of the case cooler. (EIGHT, count 'em, EIGHT fans). I will try two instances of Prime95 in torture wilth small TFT because my DDR2 800 Dominator with Promos is 12+ hour memtest86+ stable (not a single errror) @ 1100MHz.

...I just hit 98C with dual Prime95...

3.4GHz
1.475v

I think something is wrong...

Ummm.....holy SH*T!!! 8O That temperature is NOT good for a Core 2....they dislike that very very much. What heatsink are you using? Make sure that you have the TIM applied correctly. Also, check that the heatsink is making good contact with the processor. 98 is too hot for any processor (really, they can survive at that temp.....but it def. ain't good on 'em)

Best of Luck- (and don't run that rig at 98C anymore...please 😛 )

ORTHOS IS PICKY!!!

That's the whole point.

Did you run two instances?

The hole point of proving you are Orthos stable is a huge peace of mind. When an app locks up, or crashes where do you start troubleshooting if you are not sure your overclock is stable? Personally I would stick to the advice given in these forums repeatedly and stabilize my overclock with memtest and orthos.

Remount that heatsink.

You still have yet to beat my friends 102c :)

The chip most likely clocked down to save its self. I have to give Intel that much, at least u can use it while its over heated.

Keep up posted
