I have an odd bug with my laptop. I got it in Feb and installed windows 8. I have a lot of development software such as java sdk, node js and visual studio, and after a few days when I was still installing programs I had a glitch were trying to search on the start screen ment the whole system locked up. It got worse so I reinstalled windows. It seemed to fix it at first but it happened again.

I installed the software in a different order the third time and it was fine until last week. The start screen froze again. I used sfc /scannow and it said it found files but couldn't fix them. I decided to just upgrade to Windows 10 and then to a clean install.

After the upgrade windows 10 worked for about 30mins before I couldn't open settings and the menu search froze.

I did a clean install. I them installed Google Chrome, Dropbox, vs2015, github, photoshop cc, steam, Battle.net and wow. It was fine for a few days but when I tried to launch wow it just opened then minimised itself (like the settings menu had before). I realised I had installed the nvidia drivers but not run the geforce experience before so that updated when I opened it. It didn't fix it though.

Out of interest I ran sfc scan again and it said it found corrupted files again but had fixed them. Surely a new install of win 10 should not have corrupted files? I restarted the computer and now every time I turn it on it sets the resolution to minimum. I can manually change it to HD and Wow now runs but looks a little fuzzy.

I am letting it do another restore but I am so paranoid now. Any ideas. Hardware or software??

Samsung Evo SSD
4th gen i7
970gtx
8gb RAM

Solution
Sounds like hardware if it keeps happening after reinstalling. Check your RAM, and run any available diagnostic tools for the EVO from Samsung's website. There are other possible points of failure, but the RAM and SSD are the most likely culprits.

Thanks. This was my first idea, but I didnt find anything wrong with the RAM or HDD. I didnt realise my post got cut off at the end.

In win 10 (the clean install) WoW wouldnt open, it just minimised itself whenever clicked on. I ran sfc /scannow out of interest and seemed to make it worse and corrupted my graphics so it changed the res to minimum whenever I turned the pc on. I dont usually use it (it said it fixed files, but I think it just broke them).

I could contact the manufacturer but I dont think they will find anything and just send it back :/.

Yep fully updated and nvidia drivers installed from nvidia page. Have read a few other posts with people having issues with nvidia drivers and win 10 etc and I suppose not everyone has win 10 yet.
