OS install help!!

dual boot. Make a partition or use another drive and install windows XP on the new drive. After that you need to look for all drivers for the new hardware, since XP is old and the hardware is newer. LAN, Chipset, USB etc

Thanks for the feedback ^_^ . well was gonna use the win xp on another cpu its an old rig . :3 and its customized . no cd drives just usb ports . and the usb ports wont work -_- damnit . wanted a fresh drive on it just to clean it up and do some little work on the rig . and just wanted to know if i could freshly install an OS on a secondary drive on windows 8 😀 doesnt hurt to learn new stuff from you guys 😀

Ah. But if you're then planning on moving that drive to a whole other PC....that probably won't work.

What you are trying to do won't work. You want to use your windows 8 PC to install windows XP on a drive and then take it to a new computer to boot up. It won't work why? Because windows XP will try to install with drivers from that windows 8 PC, mobo chipset, audio etc. since XP is old and the windows 8 components are new you will need all drivers. But you don't want that because it will be for a whole different computer. Your best bet is getting a USB flash drive and get windows XP there and also try to fix those USB ports so the install can work

Optical drives are pretty inexpensive. Most of us will have a few old ones kicking around. If it's a laptop you can even get external drives for $25 but then I guess you back to the USB issue.

And another note, as I just posted asking the question, according to MS you can't install an older OS as dual boot second. They say you have to have XP installed and then you can install the newer OS otherwise the boot sector is overwriten by the old OS and the new one will no longer work. I'm trying to see if this is true.

so yeah . i was thinking about that too . now if thats the scenario . Can i just make like or put a file on the drive that can be boot-able using bios ? and install os directly without using disc or usb ? . or any other ideas ? suggestions ?
