Hi. I'm putting together a new build soon. I plan on installing windows 7 on the new ssd and using my old hdd for storage.

My old hdd will have everything still on it, windows, programs and docs.
As I will be wanting to use this drive just for storage what is the best way to remove the old windows os and programs? Is it just as simple as deleting them or would the drive function better if it was reformatted?

I like the idea of redirecting the new os on the ssd to my old documents and downloads.

Also does anyone have any opinions on installing windows 7 or 8 on a new build?

Thanks.

If the data is on the OS partition then copy it off and reformat the drive then copy it back.

If its not on the same partition, delete everything on the old OS partition and keep using it. Apps will have to be re-installed - they'll be on d: instead of c:
