Ok, so recently I decided to install windows 7 over a copy of vista, and near the end of the expanding files stage, I got an error 0x800707570, which after some digging points to an issue with the computer's memory. I then tried using different ram sticks, and then all 4 of the sticks in different combinations. None of it changed the outcome of the installation, so I tried just using a different hard drive to see if that changed anything.
Same outcome. I then tried to install ubuntu instead, and I got an I/O error during the install (also supposedly due to memory issues). I then tried using memtest to check all of the ram sticks, and they all passed without errors 3-4 times. Both the ubuntu and windows installers worked fine on other computers, so I'm pretty sure that they are not the issue.
I'm still pretty new to hardware, and I haven't been able to find anything that worked by googling the problem, so I'm pretty stuck on what to do next.
