Hi I just backed up my friends C:\ drive to a wiped 500gb laptop hdd, with Windows 10. I tried to boot it in my pc, they're two different builds, and it instantly says boot.mgr is missing? Please help

Solution

No.
32bit to 64bit is a clean install. Full wipe.
There is no possibility of keeping anything. that exists within that OS.

So...let me get this straight.

You backed up a C drive, to a different drive. With what tool?
Then you put this drive in a whole different system.
And it fails to boot, or possibly does not see the boot partition?

Multiple things could have gone wrong with this.

"I think"

Anyway...it is possible you unincluded the boot partition.
Or just that the new system does not play well wit hthe old OS
Or that the original OS was corrupted.
Or the BIOS is not set properly.

Or a few other things.

Is the booting files it's own partition? It was his C:\ drive so I don't know, well it might not play well, his build is intel nvidia, mine amd. What might be set up wrong in the bios, I checked the load order and it was okay. Also something that's fishy is the act that it says it is a 200gb hdd, when it's 500gb but I don't know is there a way to create a boot.Mgr file?

Moving an OS from an AMD system to an Intel system often/usually does not work.
As in...I'd be surprised if it DID work, even if you did the cloning thing perfectly.

And yes, cloning a 200GB drive or partition to a 500GB drive may well result in you only seeing a 200GB partition, and the rest unallocated, or otherwise unavailable.

The bottom line though...trying to boot up your friends OS in your whole different PC probably will not work.

Well thanks for the help nevertheless, but do you have a good way of copying 1 32bit windows over to a different drive and then making it 64 bit while keeping my data
