How do I set up my computer like this:

I have a 250GB HDD and a 1TB HDD. I want the 250GB HDD have the OS and other crucial files on it. The 1TB HDD is the drive I want to be the default save location for anything I do, as well as the drive that has the program files and such on it. How would I set it up so it boots from the smaller drive, but saves and runs things from the bigger drive?

Solution
You can do that but not automatically or automated you will have to control program install and file locations. This however may not be the best route from a performance perspective. I recommend seeing which hard drive is faster and has more cashe before executing this plan. You don't want to hamper your systems performance by running the computer off what is likely a slower older hard drive.
Install OS to first drive. Save and install things to second. Set your BIOS to boot from first drive.

... it's that easy.

Do you have anything currently on either of the drives? Is this a new build or rebuilding a current one? I/we will give more help with some more info.

And FYI if that 250 Gb is an old drive, I don't recommend installing the OS there - an older drive is more likely to stop working soon.
