Hey,
Just got an Asus Tuf B450 Plus and it list W7 x64 and W10 x64 as the supported OS's. This board came out in the summer of 2018 (AFAIK) so, W7 and not W8.1?
I've had boards that claimed limited support but you could load anything on them but they were MBR BIOS not UEFI.
Surely all it could do is brick everything. eh?

Only windows 10 is supported on modern hardware.
You can install windows 7 and it will work, but windows updates will get disabled and you'll get unsupported hardware warning, when trying to update.

"Brick everything"? Not sure, what you're talking about. Windows install doesn't cause any "bricking".

I'm running W7 x64 with NO such issues. Your saying that W7 causes obsolete hardware warnings?
Not on any of my (4) boards. W10 is not the only OS supported on modern hardware. It may be the only OS that M$ says is supported. I've now got 7x64, 8.1x64 and 10x64 on the same PC's, this new Asus and 2 of the other 3 boards.
The "Bricking" comment was a rather DRY attempt at PC humor.

As long as you're running "Windows 8.1 Update" you should be fine with regard to OS updates. Windows 8 and regular 8.1 (non-"Update") are end of life.

Basically comes down to drivers. I think I remember reading that Win10 is closer to Win8(.1) than Win7 is, so you could try installing the Win10 drivers provided.

I'm not sure why you want to run Win8.1 though. I think the free upgrade to Win10 is still available through a workaround if it's just a matter of lacking a Win10 license.

[END QUOTE]

What is W 8.1 Update and regular 8.1 (non-update)???
Got a link to these naming conventions???
W 8.1 is alive till 2023 as is most everything except phone and handheld. Below is the link to EOL page (as of today) for 8.1 and a pic of the page, if I can upload it.

The question is still at the end of the 2nd sentence, ie ... "W7 and not W8.1" It doesn't make logical sense seeing as W7 is toast and W8.1 has 3.5 years left. It's like M$ convinced them into listing it that way to facilitate it's goal of having every user using W10 asap since it will easily run W8.1.

The "eh" at the end (the Canadian equivalent of a Question Mark) making it question-like is what was rhetorical.

But do you have 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen ? W7 is a bitch to install and make run on them.

Only a Month Late, sorry.
(2nd gen) Ryzen 5 2600X on Asus Tuf B450 Plus Gaming
My biggest headache was chipset drivers for se7en x64 for the B450 Plus, they've been missing for a long time from the website. (rest of w7 x64 drivers are there) but (2) of the other B450 MB's use the same chipset drivers and had the same whirlpool hash. Now I notice they've been removed from the MB specs at Asus.
All these MB vendors want to adhere to M$ giving customers only 1 choice, let Mrs Gates buy MB's from them instead of me.
