Hey guys, My situation is this; when I unplug my old storage drive (which I suspect to be failing) and plug in my new storage drive (which I know is good), I get a "no operating system found. Please restart and select proper boot device" error. But when I plug my old drive back in, it boots as normal. It wont even boot with neither one plugged in. I suspected secure boot as my problem, so I cleared the keys and still no luck... Anyone know of a fix?

running windows 8.1 on an m5a97r 2.0 motherboard.

Solution
if you have the windows disk you use the repair options

either try the automatic fix boot problems/start up problems

or use the command prompt one of these usually fixes it

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /scanos followed by

bootrec /rebuildbcd
@ r_1, Yes i checked all settings and everything was in order. @mcnumpty How would the boot record be stored on a secondary drive and not the main os drive? and if thats the case how would i go about importing that record to be stored on the main os drive or the new storage drive? The repair options you mention, are they the ones you get on shut down holding shift, or the ones that are on the windows install disk?
