I bought this item http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XfOO7ZUBg8
"Usb 3.0/2.0 to sata/ide cable" To go over some old HDD's.
Ayways i have tried my wery best to read the instructions, installed numerous programs off the disk that came with the product. Tried an my laptop aswell as desktop PC's running windows7 ultimate 32 and 64bit. Tried SATA, IDE 2½ and 3½ drives, changed the usb cable.
Still im not seeing anything connected to the computer.
I assume im supposed to see a drive as if i inserted a USB memory stick
Someone is documenting a similar problem here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2MTzlF67Jc

Any ideas?

1) Shouldn't need any drivers when using those USB Adapters

2) If your using an old IDE Drive check the master/slave jumper settings make sure they are set to MASTER. For Western Digital drives you have to REMOVE this jumper completely to have it as a MASTER with out Slave Present. If its set to Slave or for WD has the jumper on Master w/ Slave it won't work.

Got a new adapter today, plugged it in, got audio for USB device plugged in.
Still no sign of an actual device anywhere.
System indicates some "base system device" wich it cant install or really identify.

I got the same adapter.

When i plug it in USB 3.0 port it comes up as "Unknown Device" - "SMS".

When i plug it in USB 2.0 port it comes up as "Unknown Device" - "SMS", and under "USB Controllers" - "USB Mass Storage".

I got norwegian layout so not exactly sure what it says under english layout, but should be similiar :)

Also i find that the old IDE disks need the power to be plugged right into the HDD itself to get juice.. When the power is connected to the device it stays dead.
SATA disks on the other hand dont need the power cable at all..

Either way, I can not get this to work. Currently running Win 8.1.
