Hey TH community! Long time browser here and I'm basically just looking to confirm my suspicions.
So I've had a keen interest in overclocking and the like for a long time, frequently reading up on how to go about doing it, but never really trying it myself.
I have a bit of a crap vid card that I recently used RivaTuner to get a big boost out of through overclocking. It's a GeForce 9500GT and it's fanless...the heatpipe on it keeps the temp down to 60C max under load when running it with 725MHz Core, 1750MHz Shader and 583MHz Memory clocks (it's 575 Core, 1400 Shader, 504 Mem stock)
In testing I hit a bottleneck in framerate quite a bit before I found the max stable clocks for the GPU. I'm thinking this is due to my CPU or RAM but idk for sure. Here's the full rig stats
Intel D975XBX Mainboard
Intel Core2Duo E6550 @ 2.33MHz (running at stock 1333 FSB as reported by the BIOS)
2GB Kingston Value DDR2-667 RAM
Leadtek WinFast PX9500GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2
Now after reading up on the math involved with overclocking to refresh my brain yet again...it's looking like I'm not gonna be able to do much in the way of OCing my CPU with my crappy value RAM. It's running at 667MHz and the FSB is already 333MHz at stock. (since FSB of 333 x 2 = ~667 I don't really have any headroom)
The RAM timings are 5-5-5-15 ever since I popped in this E6550, they were 4-4-4-12 with my old E6400 at 266 FSB, not sure if I have any room to play there, the memory timings always confused me in how they played into Overclocking.
Anyway, I'd appreciate input from the community and thanks in advance!
(stop laughing at my vidjema card! I'd use my old X1900 XTX if I hadn't somehow broken off a switch )
