I know games load faster if there installed on an ssd but are there any other benefits vs installing games to a regular hard drive.

is installing games to an ssd necessary?

Not really.

There are some games that hit the hard drive a lot for uncompressed audio files. But the game will pull those into memory as much as possible and that will occur at map or area load times.

If you are low on ram and still have a swap file on the solid state drive, it would improve those response times.
