My Dad's Home and Student Edition license of Office 2021 suddenly lost Outlook two days ago.

He's been using it for two years and then earlier this week, his taskbar shortcut for it has gone. I had a look and saw the start menu shortcut is just a blank page icon and the destination it points to contains the exe files for Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote, but no Outlook. His .PST file with all his folders is still there. Using Outlook 2010, he can access everything from this .PST file.

After some sleuthing, the best explanation that I can come up with is that Office 2021 Home and Student Edition stopped including Outlook 2 years ago. It's taken this long for the Windows 11 updates to pull the plug. He is supposed to move over to this 'standalone' version of Outlook now, which I think they call Outlook Classic. The problem is, it won't let you import any .PST files unless you have a 365 subscription. I don't even know what I have to do to get his contacts list in.

So I'm just asking, have I got this right? Is this the deal Microsoft have given us? I'm spending hours trying to figure this out.

Home and Student Edition of MS Office for years never came with Outlook

The best bet probably is get a Office deal from Groupon.com

Curious.

FYI:

Microsoft Outlook is transitioning from "Classic" to "New".

Problematic.

Outlook New is buggy and was prematurely (my personal opinion) imposed/released too early.

I have a Microsoft 365 subscription but not sure about any entanglements with Outlook.

However, there seems to be some issues with moving/importing .pst files and contacts into "New Outlook".

I have one system using New Outlook and one system using Classic Outlook.,

There are issues. Two issues for me: calendar and contacts. Importing contacts not fully working.

I suspect that the Home and Student versions of MS Office may be restricted or limited in even more ways.

Primarily to "encourage" users to pay more to upgrade.

If your Dad's Contact List, etc. is lengthy then focus on exporting that list in some .csv or .txt format located where the file can be easily located and imported later.

Delve into the details of a Micrsoft 365 subcription: the subscription can shared with up to 5 family members.

That is what I am doing.

Hi, guys. Thank you very much for your answers to my question. I did have a quick look at Groupon.

In the end, I found this video:

Which lead me to this link:

So I've been able to reinstall Outlook 2021, or Outlook Classic as it's called, and it has found all of my Dad's contacts and folders, as well as allowing him to continue checking his mail via POP3, which is what he's used to.
