Hey all so i recently ugpraded my gpu from a 750 to a 5500 xt and upgraded to 16gb of ram. However my cpu usage is still quite high on certain games especially lost ark the 1 i upgraded my pc for. So, i want to over clock my i-5 4670k. I know this is difficult but i heard that it can increase performance by a lot. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated what program should i use and any general tips would be nice.

Hi ayeooo444 👍

There are Overclocking guides for your Haswell CPU. Here are two:
https://www.overclockers.com/3step-guide-to-overclock-intel-haswell

OK first update your BIOS and Chipset if not already done so.

As you have a Corsair AIO (Please list the model) then install it and conduct a Baseline Stress test using Aida64 at stock frequency for 20mins. Take desktop photos at the 20min mark then post the results thru IMGUR. If at anytime temps go above 80C then stop the test.
I also use HWinfo64 to compare temps and other relevant info.
Check Your Rail voltages and temps on the T/Die to determine a decent stable Overclock and post results here...

Just a few words of advice. Don't attempt a max overclock in one hit and only make changes within Bios. Do not make any arbitrary changes without knowing the results.
If confused at any time then ask for an explanation.

Okay i dont think ima do it tonight probably when i get up tomorrow ill get back to you on the screenshots seems a little hard im nervous about <Mod Edit> up. But i need to OC my cpu as i dont wanna buy a brand new one and this could increase my performance by a good bit.

Games like Lost Ark are CPU bound games. Meaning they use more CPU than GPU. Upgrading your GPU and RAM did nothing to fix a high CPU usage.

In fact, it probably made it a bit worse since now the CPU is able to feed more frames to a more frame hungry GPU, it will in turn raise the usage of the CPU.

Overclocking may help but that CPU is a bottleneck. You need to upgrade the CPU to use the 5500xt at its full potential. The 5500xt will pin that CPU at high usage since it asks for more frames to be rendered by the CPU.

What does improving performance by a lot mean? The 4670k isn’t the best overclocker, I had one and it only got to 4.3GHz. The later 4690k was better. Let’s say you are averaging 60fps today and are totally cpu limited. If you managed a 10% overclock the absolute best improvement would be to now get 66fps although in reality it may be lower. Try it but do manage expectations, I would not call the potential gain ‘a lot’ but still worth doing.

So heres my issue i had a evga 750 and i had 10 gb ram i bought a 5500 xt and upgraded to 16 gb ram and im still getting damn near the same performance on Lost ark my <Mod Edit> is stuttering and lagging with high cpu usage. When it says the i-5 4670k is the recommend specs on lost ark its really pissing me off. So i thought OC my cpu would help.

Download this then reboot and wait a few mins.
Run the benchmark with the browser closed and post a LINK to the results page.

PC Benchmark

I got 2 different results. 1 was on user start up roughly and the other was about 2-4 mins after. Keep in mind im running this 5500 xt on pcie 3.0 because of my mobo.

If you are rebooting and waiting a few mins then running UBM with the browser closed then it shows you have too much background stuff running.

You don't have a powerhouse cpu so don't run unneeded stuff and use up cpu power.

I dont really have anything running in the background what could be the issue u think?

Overclocking may help just don’t expect too much.

You RAM score is terrible. I can see you are mixing RAM (can be problematic). What slots are the RAM installed in? You want to make sure you have 8gb in both channel A and B. Otherwise most/all will be running in single channel.
I have x1 8gb ramin 1st slot. x1 4gb ram in the 2nd slot. x1 4gb ram in 4th slot. The x1 8gb ram is a different frequency and its also a different brand.

But also cpu-z says im running in dual channel ram. But i dont know if my ram is the problem as im not having any high memory usage while i play lost ark its mostly my cpu usage going to 95-100% then my fps dropping and stuttering. my ran is running at 1600 mhz btw, because im on an old mobo it only supports ddr3 ram.

In steam, open Settings > In-Game > In-Game FPS Counter. Lost ark is locked to whatever your screen refresh rate is. If your monitor is only 60hz then your only going to get 60FPS in the game.

If the game is showing 60FPS then overclocking your cpu will not help at all since you're already maxed out.

It’s in the correct slots for dual channel with that setup. It’s not RAM usage I was thinking of, it was single channel vs dual which would have halved the bandwidth. It doesn’t half performance but can have a material impact.

Please show screenshots from CPU-Z - memory and spd sections.

Imgur: The magic of the Internet so, my motherboard isnt compatible with any of the new cpus. But if i was to this the i-7 4770k with 8 threads instead of my 4 threads (still 4 core tho) would it probably fix my issue? Or would i be better off just buying an ssd since its an mmo game? i already had my fps showing it is locked at 60 on a 60 hz monitor the issue is fps drops followed by stutters.
