Hi, I know it is possible to overcloak a thunderbird, but what I don't understand is that it seems that thunderbird are socket A ... so how the hell are you supposed to plug the OCcard on it ? Is there also slot A Athlon thunderbird ?
I read somewhere that AMD would lock the multiplier on the thunderbird... Is that true ? or can you still use the goldfinger card on all thunderbird Athlon ?

And what for the Duron ?

Thanks !

I thought it was typo, but since 'a' and 'c' are a distance, and yu have been repeating that for 3 posts, I think you spelled it wrong; it is OVERCLOCKING, not OVERCLOAKING... hehe

Smart guys are not smart; they only see things in different perspective.

OK, here's the skinny. While there still may be some slot t-birds floating around out there, they only work on the defunct AMD 750 chipset. If you already have a \n athlon then stick with it, the t-bird will need a new mobo and with DDR boards comin soon it would be better to wait. To oc a socket t-bird you have to close the L1 bridges on the chip and you can use the mobo (A7V or KT7) to set whatever speed. As far as AMD locking the t-bird, I haven't heard anybody squawk about not being able to oc their chip yet, mine had the L1 closed from the fab. Hope I helped, I'm no Dr. Tom but I do the best I can. Good luck, Diemos

Ya thanks :) I can't be perfect !

Socket A is the way to go. Duron is a socket A and most Tbirds are socket A also. Shy away from SLOT A Tbirds they take a special MB and the upgrade path sucks with it...

u r lucky as it is possible totally to overclock a Socket A CPU. All you need to do is link the L1 bridges together with a standard pencil (yes that easy) then as long as the motherboard has some type of multiplier changer then you are in look on the rest of the web for more info or maybe someone can help you here 🙂
Have fun and make sure you post what speeds u get your CPU up to
