overclock AMD Athlon 64 3500+ NewCastle for gaming worth it?

I have been reading on this forum and started wondering if it would be worth it to try and overclock it for gaming purposes ? I can play the newest games at nice settings on 1024x768...the question is, if I overclock, will it be more then noticably better ? feel free to give any suggestions you might have.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Newcastle (running at 2200 Mhz)

4 x 512 MB PC3200 GEIL DDR (part number : CL25-4-4DDR 400)

cooling : cpu : CNPS9500 LED
120 mm outtake fan in the back of my case
no front intake fan
everything else is stock/default cooling and I don't plan on
improving it in any way since MB temp is 22C and CPU temp
is 27C (without anything special or games running)

erm where is the GFX? you will notice about 5-10 fps on most games with a overclock on the GFX. if your using a Nvidia card then download "Coolbits" and use "find safe clock settings" or whatever its called.

the only time a cpu overclock will be noticed is in more cpu intensive games, CS:S is one of those games along with UT2004. im not too sure on the overclocking of the 64 amds i just upped the FSB, but if you go further you have to loosen up memory timings, up the voltage of the CPU and change the multiplyer, make sure you do it in SMALL steps!

you could be lucky in my old system

i could get 98fps outta the stress test in CS:S, cant remember the fsb or gfx settings.

I have an ati x800xt and I enabled ati overdrive, so instead of 520 Mhz the gpu runs at 527 Mhz. But since I am here now anyway...anyone can give me some information about the agp/pci frequency option which I can set in the bios to 66/33 or 72/36 or auto. It used to be on auto (worked fine), i tried 72/36 (can't boot). 66/33 I didn't try yet. Anyone can explain why someone would set a particular setting ?

The newcastle core wasn't the best for OCing, but with a little luck, you should get close to 2.5 My s754 newcastle 3200 will do 2450 without a hitch@ 100% 24/7.

have a newcastle 3500+ running at 2500mhz at default voltage watercooled. More should be no problem but would have to up vcore.
For AGP/PCI i would leave it to auto or 66/33, any higher setting can cause instabilities as you already noticed.

Btw. have an Asus A8V Deluxe too.
