Hello,
I want to overclock my i7 2600 (Non K) To 4,2 Ghz from 3,4 Ghz.
For cooling I'm going to use Cooler Master HYPER 212.
4,2Ghz because a lot people have achieved this result.
I only need to increase Each Core to 42?
Do I need to have Turbo Boost enabled ? (Red meter with leaf)
Do I need to do anything else with voltage?
Thank you in advance.
I know that overclocking non k cpu is a bad idea, but, before, I didn't knew much about PC and
got a non k version...

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM: Corsair 8.00GB DDR3 1600Mhz
MotherBoard: P8Z77-V LX (LGA1155)
GPU: ASUS R9 290
PSU: Chieftec 850 Watt

Ocing a non k is not a bad idea. It oc the same way as a k cpu but you are limited to .4 above the turbo. It doesn't matter if you have turbo on of off, since you are using your max multiplier which is 42, that is the max speed. Auto voltage maybe higher than normal. It might get the same. No way to find out unless you see what vcore it does give you after changing the multi.

I will increase the multiplier by 42 and leave it. If it brings me problems, then I will increase vcore by 0,05 each time. I did read before that some people just increased vcore till 42 and left it.

I changed multiplier to 42 and bsclck to 103, but it only shows 4ghz oc.. Vcore was automatically set to 1,18+ on manual mode. Looks like this cpu can't do 4.2 afterall? Or I'm doing something wrong?

Yes, multicore enhancement is enabled. I don't quite know how to stress one core, but when it fluctuates on idle, it shows 1,6 ghz - 4 ghz. I read that if you set each core 39 40 41 42, then it will show one core 42, but haven't tried that, because it's not worth it to have only one core 42.

Everything was set to 42 and even no turbo ratio to 42, but still nothing changed. I heard that +3 to bsclck is safe. Is it true?
Well 4ghz isn't bad at all, of course,4,2 would be better... Without bsclck it is 3,89 ghz

hmm.. strange with occt core speed is 3,9 ghz , but when I was looking at core speed without occt I saw a glimpe of 4,2ghz on one, then two cores.
I sat settings to default and changed settings again.. Maybe OCCT isn't stressing enough?

My settings.

http:// And dram voltage is set to 1.500V not auto

Temp when stressing with OCCT are:
For core 0 - 60 C And the rest cores are 55 C +
On iddle for core 0 - 42 C + And the rest cores are 36 C +
Don't know what you meant by power settings and throttling.
And you mentioned about threads in occt, I need to change it?

You know what, when I sat 1 thread in OCCT it actually showed 4,2ghz. What does it mean? It means that 4,2ghz works on all cores? In CPU-Z it showed 3,9ghz ,but in OCCT it was 4,2ghz...

OCCT CPU Usage.

Odd it says 100mhz fsb. Maybe you should try prime95. How turbo usually works is the highest speed is for 1 core and for you cpu .1ghz lower for each core used so 4 cores is 3.9ghz. This is why I thought multicore enhancement was disabled because that option uses a loophole in the turbo code to allow the max speed to be used when all cores are being used.

Can hyper threading affect it?

Sometimes multiplier shows x42 in CPU-Z on idle. Maybe it does work.. But I'm not sure. I will give up on this.. I did buy cooler though.
