I have an aging gtx960 card (the brand that is worst for coil whine) its noise has become an annoyance ever since I lowered my system sound by dropping mechanical hdd in favor of full out ssds
the card is also starting to show its age in some games and to avoid the whine I have needed to run with 30 fps caps but a few of the games I play are demanding and still produce the death scream even with restrictions in place.
wondering a few things, if anyone knowledgeable in videos cards can help it would be much appreciated.
I heard that If I under/overclock It could possibly get away from this noise, true ? worth it? I always been scared of messing with manufacturer settings as I don't want to damage hardware but maybe doing it could reduce the noise and squeeze some extra life out of the card too.
1/should I overclock and where to start?
secondly I am considering an upgrade but jeese did gpus get expensive, In the past I usually spent around £150 to £200ish on upgrades, the few cards I have looked up benchmarks for in this price range don't outperform my current card by a whole lot, maybe I am looking at the wrong places for benchmarks or just choosing to look up status on the wrong cards anyway ...
2/I feel like I am just on the fence constantly waiting for something affordable that blows away my existing card but with around a £200 budget am I realistically going to get anything good/like that?
3/only seeing the 2080 at my usual retailers, should I wait for the next gen of nvidia lower-mid tier cards to roll out or maybe even wait another year for the generation after (I hear the 2xxx series are only a stopgap)
never used amd is it worth going to them? one of my friends suggested they have much cheaper cards that nvidia that perform almost the same as a 1070, when I looked into this I actually found one place selling a r9 nano that is supposed to be almost double the performance of my current card for £250 but seeking out this card (new) seems that it is out of stock practically everywhere and similar performance amd cards seem to be priced £300 upwards
random searching without much context shown me most other cards I was looking at in my price-range don't benchmark too much ahead of my current card.
4/anything amd worth looking at?
thanks
