Overclock or upgrade?

I have a optiplex 755 running a e4500 2.2 ghz core 2 duo. I want faster performance so should I upgrade to a core 2 quad or overclock the core 2 duo. After this upgrade I am planning on putting a ssd in it. If I should upgrade to a core 2 quad which version is compatible. Since socket 775 compatibility is a bit iffy.

The pc:
Optiplex 755
Core 2 duo e4500
4gb ddr2 ram
160 gb 7200rpm Hard drive.
Integrated Graphics
