Overclocked i5 for VR

Hi all,
I have been looking into buying a Oculus Rift, i have run the the tool to see if my rig can run it. Gpu, memory is all good but it says that my cpu is not. Now, with the rift already around £550, i don`t really want to be shelling out on a new cpu and mb. I have my cpu overclocked to 4.3ghz, do any of you guys or girls know if that would be enough to run the rift. I do not know anyone with a rift, so i am a little bit stuck. Also, the test said that my OS needed upgrading. I am running Windows 7, i thought that was ok.

You need to tell us the full specs. Also, I highly recommend against getting the Rift. Please, please, please get the Vive!

The Oculus Rift requires Windows 7 to be the 64-bit version (so make sure you are running x64). You may not have the best experience if you are running the minimum requirements.

I have two words for you "HTC VIVE" You can run most Oculus games with software called revive.

Firstly, thank you for your replies. The Vive is quite a bit more expensive, also i would not get the full experience as i don`t have the room for room scale plus its mainly for racing. My specs are, 16gb 1600mhz ram, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro, Core i5 2550k @ 4.3 Ghz and 500gb Samsung ssd, Windows 7 64-bit. Not the best rig in the world but ok.

Ok, I'm with you Andy_93 (I took note of your avatar) the Oculus Rift is probably the better unit for racing VR as it's lighter and probably more comfortable. I've demoed the Rift and couldn't imagine buying one and not getting the touch controllers with it, but for racing sims, it's just fine. You could always get them latter if you want.

As for the i5 2550k @4.3, I can't find any info on how it compares to a i5 4590 (min spec for the Rift). May I suggest looking at some CPU benchmarks of a i5 4590 and then run the same benchmarks on your over clocked i5 2550k. That should give you an idea of if it will work (no guarantees). I understand your apprehension. That is a lot of money to shell out, only to find you need to upgrade your CPU.
