So I overclocked my CPU through Bios, it's now 4.7Ghz. Through HWmonitor my idle temps would be 40-45C With a Max of 100C on full load using Prime95 with small FFT's. So I reapplied some arctic silver.

YES, my idle temps are now way better going fron 29°C to 30°C but on full load its still 99°C....Is this because it's prime95? I have tested games and they ran fine. For example Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings with 150Res. The CPU ran at around 55%-60% load at 58-60°C.

My question is, do I keep doing this thermal paste thing wrong or whats the deal here because full load temps are kind of insane.

My Build: i7 4790K, 2x MSI GTX 970 (Overclocked as well), 2x4GB corsair vengeance, MSI Gaming 7 Mobo, Corsair 760T white Case, Corsair H110i GT Water Cooler <----THIS IS MY CPU COOLER...(ik right...).

OH and also, when I was putting the water-block I saw the screws were not straight so I loosened them, re-positioned them and the block was raised up like 3 inches from the CPU after contact but I just put it back on and re-positioned everything to make sure it was all straight. Hopefully this didn't do anything bad?

I'd decrease the OC some, and the temps should drop. As long as you put the waterblock on back right, you're good.

But I mean, I was even pushing for 5Ghz like. 1st, I will probably never use my CPU at 100% load like ever. Secondly its been stable, no reboots, no bios messages saying your settings have been reset or anything. Im also running at only 1.289V. So like anything else you could recommend me?

There is an option for the pumps where it says RPM divider: One, Two, Four, Six. Is there a certain one I should do and what does that mean? Mine is currently on Two.

I think It's because the new version of Prime 95 messes with the AVX voltage regulation and causes it to spike (hence the extremely high temperature). Try with an older version of prime (some recommend 27.9), because it only has partial AVX support and won't spike the temperature as much.

try six, if it is what I think it is it should just up the RPM's increasing water flow, which should help

Just tried 27.9 and got like a 2 degree difference its still like 96 97

Yea that made it wayyy Cooler, its now running like 29 idle

Don't be rude I'm just trying to help (or did you update your original post?)... What's the load temp?

yea that looks about right, I got 83 celsius on full load with that :) Thanks
