Overclocked my cpu but.....

I just oc'd my cpu for da 1st tym, n i think it was succesful(YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), it showed no probs of any kind, no lagging, or restart, or hang. my config is INTEL E4500(2.2Ghz), ABIT IP35P MOBO, TRANSCEND 800 Mhz bus, 540\400 Mhz 8600GT,420 WATT THERMALTAKE PSU......... i changed da multiplier from default 11x to 10x, n increasd da bus from 200Mhz to 240Mhz. during da whole process i only changed da mult. n da FSB, but after oc-ing my ram bus was 960Mhz. Can any1 tel me y dis increased, n is there gonna b any problem if it increases more, bcuz i wanna oc my cpu to 3 Ghz. N in da bios, i saw da option for changing da pcie bus. If i do dat, will dere b any prob for my 8600gt? can any1 plz help. any help wil b appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Your FSB and Memory run in a proportional ratio. When you increase the FSB you are also increasing your memory speed. You will need to change the memory ratio, or as some call it the divider, so your memory will run at a slower speed if you have instability.

You will need to run Orthos or PRime95 to test for stability.

Sure its better to run the FSB/Memory @ 1:1, but its not always possible with lower speed memory such as DDR2 800. And besides the performance impact is minimal.

He should raise his FSB first to get the CPU speed he wants and then adjust the Memory multiplier to one closest to his actual memory speed.

And leave the Multi @ 11 you can get to 3ghz easily with 11x, 272-273 will get you 3ghz @ 11 vs 300 @ 10

ok so i'l leave the multi @ 11, n change the fsb to 272, but that'll cause the ram speed to increase a lot. what if its not stable at that? r there any alternatives? is it possible for my ram chips to be damaged during da process? n ididnt get the fsb/memory1:1 ratio? can any1 plz exlpain

Running the ratio at 1:1 is generally a good idea.

Think of the memory bandwidth as like freeway lanes and mhz as speed limits (mph). Data travels from Memory --> Memory controller --> CPU. If you have a uneven ratio, like 4:5, then you are in effect have a delay from changing from 65mph to 75mph. If it's 1:1, then think of it as 5:5, all lanes are open and run at 75mph, as they pass between the cpu --> memory controller(NB) --> Memory modules.

Sorry, man, that chip won't go higher than 3.6GHz on water cooling, and maybe 4.5GHz on liquid nitrogen. Tried.

I dont need 3.6GHz :??: I'm just tryin to get to 3ghz. and about coolers, i've heard of thermal coolers that keeps the temp below room temp always. i'm planning to get 1 of those. will that be enough? Or do i need extra fans with that?
