Hi everyone. So I am new to building pc s and a total noob in overclocking. Recently I found a good deal on the i7 9700k paired with the Gigabyte Z390 UD. I also got a Cooler Master Masterliquid ML240L RGB for cooling. I have seen some tutorials online on how to overclock the 9700k but I am not sure how much of an overclock can the motherboard handle because from what I heard it is an entry level board. Does anyone have experience overclocking with this combo? Or if you can tell me what to look at so I can have a better idea how much I can push the cpu without damaging the board? ( ex VRMs and how their durability/performance is measured). Thanks.

The motherboard is really not designed for overclocking an I7.

You can try, but keep an eye on VRM temperatures in a program like HWinfo.

Make sure your motherboards VRMs are not over 90c to preserve board longevity.

As far as you can push your CPU is hard to say. Depends a lot on sillicon quality.

I would try for a 4.9-5ghz all core and check VRM temps. To high, return to stock as it will turbo near 4.9 anyhow.
