Does anyone know how to overclock a slot1 PIII 550 on Abit VA6 ApolloPro133? The board uses SoftMenu II, i tried everything, but it keeps putting me back to 550 at 5.5x 100fsb 2.00 v. What is a good speed to get this to and someone lead me step by step, b/c i nearly ripped the cpu out. I heard that PIIIs have lockings so u cant, but everyone has changed it. I océd Pentium classics and Athlon Classic slot A easily, but this is a pain. Help please?

The PIII is multiplyer locked so you can not change the 5.5 all you can do is up the frontside bus (fsb) of the mobo and the voltage of the cpu try uping the fsb and the voltage and leave the cpu multiplyer alone. Question for you does that PIII have 512k level two cache?

Yea its a 512k L2 cache. Also how far should i take the voltage up for a 550mhz?

and what he means is that you really going to need good luck to o/c that CPU all P2's or all CPUs with the 512k L2 running at half the speed of the CPU were a pain to o/c. I dont mean its impossible but its a lot harder and dont expect the same o/cing as if it was celeron or coppermine 😉
