Dear All,

I'm just waiting on the 8700k to come in, then I can complete my air-cooled build with the Maxmus X Hero and Trident-Z 3200mhz ram.

Question, if I have good air cooling, what is the moderate overclock I should aim for? I dont want to push the system to its limits, but something in the middle a little over base. Maximus X Hero bios should make this somewhat easier, I hope.

Pls advise!

yeah looking into it it seems like the macho is an excellent air cooler, you should be fine then. Defs just boost it up point by point till you hit where you are comfortable, but 4.9 should be easy if you are looking for an easier overclock there.

Depending on how good the air cooling is, you could shoot for 4.8 or 4.9. Most people seem to have no trouble pushing 5 with good cooling setups, so slightly below that should be safe no matter what. Do be wary though Coffeelake is kinda a flamethrower, so good cooling for most systems is kinda like base cooling for coffee lake.

I have a cooler master case with 200mm fans And a large cpu heatsink/fan from le grand macho. I also have a zalman from my current 1150 build, Don’t know which one is better or if the zalman can go on top of the 8700k. Le grand macho seemed to have good reviews...

Is that doable through the bios or will that require more in depth tweaking? Thanks a lot
